Topic : Academic Adjustment
Goal Statement : To prepare and facilitate a presentation on time management and study skills so students can learn effective ways to study for their classes and schedule time to do so in order to scholastically exceed.
Activities/Resources:
· Meet with my URI 101 instructor to discuss my points that I want to address.
· Create notes and prepare visual images (daily planners, schedules) for my presentation that introduce time management and study methods.
· Present to my class and allow time for any questions to be asked.
Evidence: I will include my typed notes that I will use for the presentation.
The following evidence is an example of an activity used during my URI 101 section regarding time management. The point I had to address was "Academic Adjustment," and I felt that it was important to address this topic to promote academic success.
I decided to address this point my first class with my section in order to sink this information in early for my students. As well as my students in my section, all first year students have to learn effective time management.
The purpose of this activity is to educate my students about effectively managing their time when it comes to classes, important events and dates, and making time for others. What I did to prepare this activity was simply compile typed notes to present to my students during class. I made sure to include important tips and suggestions, and during my presentation I asked the students if they had any input to share with each other when it comes to time management and academics. This way, I encouraged the students to learn from each other and educate each other. My goal was to prepare my students for being able to handle and arrange everything going on in their lives.
In regards to being a mentor, I learned a lot from this activity. All I did for this activity was conduct a classroom presentation about time management for my student, and in reflection I wish I had prepared an activity to match. In my CSV 302 class, I was instructed that the best way to educate my students is to include an icebreaker or activity, which will make the information more memorable and fun. I felt I could have been more creative in doing this, so ultimately I learned the steps to take in order to give an effective education during class.
I included this evidence to portray the information that I fed to my students. From this activity I bettered my experience in how to facilitate an educational lecture and about effective teaching styles and methods.
